Dentists

The dentist is traditionally a person feared by the public, who think that they will cause great pain and discomfort to their mouth and gum. The truth is far from this, as modern technology, techniques and services make a trip to the dentist not only relatively painless, but an important part of our lives. Dentists look into our mouths (or the ‘oral cavity’) and can diagnose diseases or any conditions that could be of problem. They can also treat or prevent such problems arising in the first place, which is why it is important that someone regularly visits their dentist and follows their advice.

There are many ways of getting dental advice, be it through the NHS, or perhaps through charities such as the British Dental Health Foundation (BDHF). The latter is an independent charity that offers free dental advice to anyone who might need it. They also run national campaigns that can cause awareness to certain facts concerning oral hygiene and health. They also have an international counterpart that deals in the same business on a global scale.

As well as dentists, there are also other people who can help you maintain good oral health, including dental assistants, technicians, therapists and of course dental hygienists. On top of this there are surgeons who can perform necessary treatments or elective cosmetic dentistry.
